The Red Crescent reviews the pivotal role of the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women

Her Excellency Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women, stressed the importance of the role played by global partnerships as a key driver in the work of local and international bodies and organizations, with the aim of accelerating international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals around the world. The Emirates Red Crescent Authority participated in many events accompanying the forum, including the session of Her Excellency Amina Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, and a number of representatives of participating countries and organizations, as well as a lecture at the headquarters of New York University in the United States, which was attended by a group of graduate students from New York University from the School of Professional Studies, the Global Affairs and Global Security Program, the Conflict and Cybersecurity Program, and students from business majors and others. Abdul Allah Nasser Lootah, Assistant Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Knowledge Exchange and Competitiveness, Chairman of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, said: "The UAE plays a pivotal role in supporting global humanitarian issues, making it a role model and a shining mark in development work. Many have established the UAE’s lofty values worldwide, namely peace, development and empowerment for all segments of society, especially women, and provided them with solutions with a quick return and impact that benefit their contribution to creating a future for themselves and their society." A paradigm shift During his participation in the forum, Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Local Affairs Sector of the Authority and Vice President of the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women, reviewed the most prominent achievements of the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women, which come as part of international efforts to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals.

He said: "Since its launch at the generous initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak in 2000, the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women, through the Emirates Red Crescent and in cooperation with the UNHCR, has implemented many development projects that have made a qualitative leap in the lives of many of the most vulnerable groups, especially women and children, and contributed to improving the level of services provided to those affected in conflict areas." He stressed the keenness of the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority to intensify and continue their efforts. The delegation also reviewed the project to strengthen the capacity of refugees in Uganda, funded by the Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which benefited more than 45,000 people, 60 per cent of whom were women in the field of agriculture and livestock. High-Level Forum The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the main platform of the United Nations on sustainable development issues and, since its inception in 2012, has played a pivotal role in following up and reviewing what has been implemented at the country level in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. UAE’s Smart City and AI Model Takes Centre Stage in Discussion Hosted by NYC Mayor’s Office During 2024 UN High-Level Forum

The UAE’s innovative use of artificial intelligence (AI) to drive comprehensive development was a focal point at a session focused on the potential of smart, sustainable cities and AI applications.

This event, hosted by the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs and Partners, featured members of the UAE delegation and was held on the sidelines of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.

Under the theme of “Transformational Local and Regional Governments: Artificial Intelligence As a Tool For Good”, the UAE delegation, along with international representatives and UN programme officials, explored sustainability opportunities in future cities and the potential use of AI in integrated government operations at both city and regional levels.

Notable attendees included Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, Chairman of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals; Michal Mlynar, Acting Executive Director of UN-Habitat; Amna Binzaal Almheiri, Consul-General of the UAE in New York; and Edward Mermelstein, New York City’s Commissioner for International Affairs.

The UAE delegation emphasised the government’s commitment to expanding AI usage and enhancing global partnerships to advance government and development initiatives, highlighting the strategic goal of achieving sustainable economic, social, and knowledge growth. They also discussed the importance of research, development, and innovation, facilitated by international cooperation.

Abdulla Lootah elaborated on the UAE’s proactive approach under the guidance of its visionary leadership, which prioritises integrating AI solutions in the development of sustainable smart cities and communities. He emphasised a human-centric design strategy, ensuring that community needs and well-being are at the forefront of every phase of development and service delivery. He underscored the role of innovative technologies in driving positive transformations and ensuring governance that enhances quality of life while mitigating any adverse impacts.

Furthermore, he discussed the significant impact of strategic initiatives like the Government Experience Exchange Programme, through which the UAE disseminates and shares best practices in governmental operations with global partners. This initiative aims to foster effective partnerships to achieve SDGs.

Lootah expressed gratitude to the New York City Mayor’s Office for International Affairs for organising the session. He said, “As we look to the future, our focus must remain on fostering inclusive partnerships and expanding technological capacities. By doing so, we can work collaboratively to bridge the digital divide, creating a future where technology significantly enhances the lives of individuals and communities worldwide.”

Since its establishment in 2012, the HLPF has served as the primary platform for the UN to discuss progress on the SDGs and has played a central role in monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

HLPF 2024, themed ‘Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions,’ will conduct in-depth reviews on several SDGs: SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The Ministry of Interior stressed the importance of global peace and security in achieving the sustainable development goals and the UAE’s keenness to achieve a balanced and comprehensive development path that does not only affect the national level, but also benefits all countries of the world. This came during the participation of Lt. Col. Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi, Director General of the International Affairs Office at the Ministry of Interior, as part of the UAE delegation in the activities of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development of the United Nations held in New York, organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs until July 17, in which the Ministry of Interior reviewed its international initiatives in climate action and community security. Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzouqi noted the UAE government’s keenness to continue raising and enhancing global peace and security levels through law enforcement institutions, national security strategies, and modernizing the legislative system in line with the growing requirements of societies to achieve sustainable development goals worldwide. UAE Launches Report on Sustainable Development Beyond 2030

The UAE delegation at the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, organized by the UN Economic and Social Affairs Department at its headquarters in New York, revealed the findings of the ‘XDGs 2045: Navigating the Future of our World’ report. Developed by the UAE’s National Committee on SDGs, the forward-looking report outlines a sustainability roadmap that extends 21 years beyond the UN’s 2030 Sustainability Agenda.

The report draws on insights from the XDGs 2045 Ministerial Roundtable, a pivotal gathering that took place during the World Governments Summit 2024. It provides a high-level review of past global development agendas, evaluates current progress towards the 2030 Agenda goals, and outlines the critical steps required to ensure a sustainable and inclusive future for all.

His Excellency Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, Chairman of the National Committee on SDGs, said, "Looking beyond the 2030 Agenda, our focus remains on fostering a competitive and knowledge-driven economy. UAE, UN Discuss SDG Cooperation at High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

The UAE delegation to the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development met with the UN’s Deputy Secretary-General on Wednesday to discuss how to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the next six years.

UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed met with the delegation, led by His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, Chairman of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, at the UN’s headquarters in New York.

Discussions centered on opportunities for knowledge exchange, international cooperation and partnerships that embody SDG17, partnerships for the goals. In the meeting, the UAE delegation presented some of the country’s initiatives designed to support inclusive development to benefit individuals, society and the planet, while preserving resources for future generations.

As well as Lootah, the delegation included Rashid Mubarak Al Mansouri, Acting Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, Lieutenant Colonel Dana Humaid Al Marzooqi, Director-General of International Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Interior, and Hashem Al Attas, Senior Portfolio Manager MENA at Masdar.

Amina Mohammed said, “I look forward to continued cooperation with the UAE to accelerate sustainable development for the 2030 Agenda and beyond, ensuring a better future for communities around the world”.

Abdulla Nasser Lootah stated, “The UAE is committed to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations to eliminate poverty and hunger, promote climate action, establish strong and effective institutions, and create partnerships that support sustainable development goals”.

“Under the vision of its leadership, the UAE continues to establish strategic global partnerships, especially with UN development programs, to enhance knowledge exchange, stimulate sustainable development, and introduce innovative approaches – including the UAE’s – to achieving sustainable development”.

A large UAE delegation is participating in the UN HLPF on Sustainable Development, which runs until 17th July. UAE Lays Out Priorities for Sustainable Development at UN High-Level Political Forum

A delegation from the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday presented the country’s strategic vision for renewable energy, and climate action in the context of accelerating global progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through international partnerships.

The delegation was participating in the second day of the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, organised by the UN Economic and Social Affairs Department at its headquarters in New York and taking place until 17th July.

Representatives from the UAE presented at key sessions highlighting the UAE’s model for facilitating access to energy, eliminating poverty and hunger and securing a more climate resilient future.

A global model in setting development priorities

His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, Chairman of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, said the UAE has set a global precedent in identifying development priorities. These priorities include building sustainable healthcare systems, creating energy and climate solutions, and forging strategic partnerships with countries, governments, UN programmes, and international organisations to support progress on SDGs in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He said, "The UAE has invested heavily in healthcare, renewable energy, and climate action and began implementing global best practices in sustainable development long back and even before the UN adopted the 17 SDGs in 2016. Today, as we approach the 2030 deadline for achieving SDGs, the UAE continues to intensify partnerships and expand their scopes to boost international efforts”.

He added, “The UAE’s participation at the forum aims to highlight these urgent priorities, especially within developing countries, and explore opportunities to enhance cooperation around SDGs, especially focusing on ending hunger and poverty, accelerating climate mitigation, and supporting peace, justice, and strong institutions. The UAE looks forward to further progress on this path and we firmly believe collaboration is the fastest way to achieve SDGs”.

Tripling renewable energy capacity

The delegation participated in a session titled “Tripling Renewable Energy Capacity and Accelerating Just Energy Transitions in the Global South”, where Lootah presented the country’s commitment to tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030, a pledge made by 130 countries at COP28 in Dubai.

Climate and healthcare

In cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UAE delegation organised a session on mitigating climate change impact and enhancing global healthcare outcomes.

During the session, Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Assistant Under-Secretary for Green Development and Climate Change at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, said, “The UAE climate action centres around Sustainable Development Goals that enable access to healthcare, adequate and affordable food, quality education, and increased resource efficiency, among other vital aims. During the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, we stressed that the UAE is committed to ensuring food security for all and remain steadfast in our pursuit of SDG2: Zero Hunger. Through strategic planning, innovative solutions, and international cooperation, we are making tangible progress towards ending hunger, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture globally”.

She added, “As we navigate the complexities of global warming and environmental degradation, we cannot overlook how these issues impact economic, social, and health-related outcomes. To tackle these, we need a unified strategy for sustainable development. SDG 13 which calls to limit and adapt to climate change is particularly linked with goals that address water scarcity, hunger, health, and economic growth, among others”.

National Statistics reviews national efforts to support statistical work at the state level

The National Statistics Committee held its first meeting at the headquarters of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center in Dubai, to discuss efforts to support national strategies that serve the integration of statistical work at the state level and achieve global statistical excellence to serve development programs at the national and international levels.

The meeting discussed the importance of intensifying efforts to raise the efficiency of the statistical system, enhance cooperation frameworks and effective partnerships between local statistical centers and other entities, to implement joint projects and initiatives in the statistics and data science sector, and develop continuous assessments of renewable needs at the level of the UAE.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center, and attended by H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Abdul Allah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Director of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, H.E. Yusuf Fahad, Executive Director of the Statistics Sector at SCAD, H.E. Younis Al Nasser, CEO of Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, H.E. Dr. Hajar Al Hubaishi, Executive Director of Ajman Statistics Center, and H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Saad Mohamed Director General of Fujairah Statistics Center, and His Excellency Abdulrahman Al-Shayeb Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ras Al Khaimah Statistics Center.

The members of the National Committee for Statistics approved the strategic national projects for the statistics sector in the country, which will support the processes of harmonization and unification of frameworks and methodologies between local statistical centers, in an effort to produce a unified number at the state level with high quality, characterized by integration and comprehensiveness, and in line with the best international practices with the optimal exploitation of new data sources as an important tributary to statistical data sources that reflect the success of economic sectors in order to serve the promotion of investments and attract capital, entrepreneurs and innovative projects to State.

H.E. Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Center, Chairman of the National Statistics Committee, said: "The UAE is a global model in activating an integrated statistical system, with effective efforts and unlimited support from the wise leadership and local statistical centers, and this is evident in the priorities of the National Statistics Committee, which contribute to enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness in the statistical field and leading global efforts towards Creating an integrated and contemporary national statistical system that measures the country’s progress in data science and artificial intelligence."

Ahli added: "The adoption of the national project to develop the methodology for measuring GDP represents the basis for designing the future of the statistical system, to achieve the optimal measurement of the positive growth of vital economic sectors and activities in the country, and for the national economy to continue its exceptional performance in light of the economic policies pursued by the UAE government."

His Excellency Sheikh Sultan bin Abdul Allah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Director of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, stressed the Department’s keenness to strengthen coordination and integration mechanisms with the authorities concerned with statistical work at the state level, and to improve work at the local and federal levels, which contributes to harnessing data to serve the development of vital sectors for the prosperity and quality of life of community members.

H.E. Abdulla Gharib Al Qamzi, Acting Director General of SCAD, stressed the need to unify visions on the priorities of developing the statistical work system, consolidate effective partnerships that support investment in data science and statistics, and encourage the optimal use of technologies. Her Excellency Dr. Hajar Al Hubaishi, Executive Director of Ajman Statistics Center, said: "The high level of coordination between statistical centers in the UAE through the National Statistics Committee contributes to enhancing the role of statistics in foreseeing the future at the level of all vital sectors, and providing accurate data and reliable statistics to support National Strategic Planning and Decision Making Processes."

His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Saad Mohamed, Director General of Fujairah Statistics Center, praised the importance of integrating the statistical work system in the UAE, and the need to focus on adopting the best standards and methodologies used and adopted globally in statistical work, in collecting, analyzing and disseminating national data periodically.

UAE Identifies Priorities for Achieving Sustainable Development

The United Arab Emirates delegation to the United Nations’ High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development has reiterated its commitment to international partnerships in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During a session titled “Unlocking Investments for the SDGs”, His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange, and Chairman of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, stressed that the UAE recognizes the magnitude of the challenges facing the SDGs and has created global programs and investment tools in response.

Lootah added: “The UAE has adopted a comprehensive approach to accelerating the implementation of SDGs as we count down to 2030. It will continue to forge regional and international partnerships with both the public and private sectors to accelerate progress towards achieving SDGs by 2030, including partnerships that improve quality of life and contribute to eradicating poverty. The UAE’s development programs and investments extend beyond its borders to many countries worldwide. It has forged partnerships with governments, development banks, and private sector institutions to achieve as much impact as quickly as possible”.

During the session, Lootah highlighted a range of initiatives implemented by national entities such as the Emirates Red Crescent, the Ministry of Interior, the Abu Dhabi Development Fund, the Government Experience Exchange Programme, Masdar, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

The session was attended by government officials and representatives of international authorities and organizations. It focused on revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development, a priority outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals 2024 Report launched by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN in June, and highlighted opportunities and challenges around bridging the global financial gap when it comes to achieving SDGs, with a focus on activating the role of international and multilateral financial institutions.

The UAE’s Participation on the First Day

The UAE delegation on the first day of the forum participated in sessions that focused on SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), sustainable growth, energy transition and climate action. Additionally, the delegation held numerous bilateral meetings with delegations from participating countries, institutions, and organizations.

Since its establishment in 2012, the High-Level Political Forum has served as the primary platform for the United Nations to discuss sustainable development. It plays a central role in monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Under the theme of ‘Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels’, this year’s forum will review in-depth SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17.

UAE participates in UN High-Level Political Forum from 8 to 17 July

The U.A.E. will participate with a large government delegation in the work of the "High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development", organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs at its headquarters in New York from July 8 to 17. The forum, which is being held this year under the theme "Promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Eradicating Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises: Effectively Implementing Sustainable, Resilient and Innovative Solutions", with the participation and attendance of more than 1,000 delegates and delegates from various governments of the world and international organizations, aims to promote sustainable development, follow up global efforts in this regard, anticipate current and emerging challenges and innovate solutions to them, by exchanging knowledge on the best experiences and expertise, coordinating and evaluating policies and supporting global efforts to accelerate the achievement of the goals Sustainable development for the good of societies. The UAE delegation will participate in key working sessions, multiple seminars and a series of bilateral meetings, during which it will present the UAE’s pioneering experiences and its distinguished model in achieving the path of sustainable development, which succeeded in bringing together Development initiatives, financing programs, development assistance and strategic partnerships with countries and governments of the world and international organizations and highlighting their distinguished efforts in supporting the transformation of the 17 basic goals set by the United Nations to reach an effective system for sustainable global development by the end of the current decade. Proactive meeting of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals The National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals preceded the participation of the UAE government delegation in the work of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum, with a preparatory meeting for the members of the Committee, before the delegation’s departure to New York, during which it discussed the agenda and agenda of the UAE’s participation in the forum, reviewed the UAE’s performance in the reports of indicators of sustainable development goals, and the data that has been provided and improved, as well as a number of files related to the work of the Committee. UAE Private Sector ‘is An Engine of Change’ Critical to SDGs – UN Bodies

The private sector “is an engine of change and sustainable development” and has a critical role to play in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to business leaders speaking at a workshop organized by the General Secretariat of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Global Compact in the UAE.

The workshop took place on recently, ahead of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which takes place in New York on 8-17 July under the theme "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crisis: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”.

There, business leaders will present the ideas discussed during the Dubai workshop, which aimed to highlight the role of the private sector in achieving SDGs 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), 13 (Climate Action), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnerships for Goals). Executives from more than 80 companies attended the workshop to share best practices, exchange knowledge and provide solutions and recommendations to support SDGs.

His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Chairman of the National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, said: “The UAE’s decision to extend the Year of Sustainability to include 2024 reflects the leadership’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices within society, which directly supports national efforts in achieving SDGs. Achieving SDGs can only come from collective effort, so strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors is vital to a more sustainable and prosperous future”.

Eng. Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Board of the UN Global Compact Network in the UAE, commented: “Our shared commitment to SDGs underscores how important it is to engage and consult the private sector, which is a key driver of transformative change, especially through innovation. In this sense, companies in the UAE are uniquely positioned to lead the way, demonstrating how sustainable business practices can drive global progress and contribute to a brighter future for all”.

Other attendees to the workshop included Anita Lebiar, Head of the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia at the United Nations Global Compact. Bérangère Boëll, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the United Arab Emirates, Omar Khan, Head of the Centre for Business Studies and Research at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, and Mark Esposito, Professor of Public Policy at Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government and faculty affiliate at Harvard Center for International Development at Harvard Kennedy School.

Participants attended a roundtable discussing the results of a survey in which local businesses were asked about their experiences in adopting SDGs, including their challenges, successful initiatives and best practices.

UAE advances 3 places, ranking 7th globally in 2024 World Competitiveness Report

DUBAI, 18th June, 2024 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, stated that the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and through the dedicated efforts of its people, continues to improve its standing each year, achieving higher ranks across various global competitiveness indicators.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said, "In one of the most important global competitiveness reports issued by the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland, the UAE moved up three places, reaching seventh place globally. The UAE is also among the top ten globally in more than 90 key and sub-indicators in the 2024 World Competitiveness Report."

His Highness said, "Our thanks and appreciation go to all the teams in the government, economic, and development sectors who work with one spirit to achieve a single goal: the progress of the United Arab Emirates."

Building on last year’s achievement of entering the top 10, the UAE made a notable leap in the 2024 World Competitiveness report, advancing three positions to 7th place worldwide, ahead of Norway, Iceland, Japan, Canada and Finland.

The UAE performed exceptionally across various pillars of the report, ranking 2nd globally in Economic Performance, 4th in Government Efficiency, 10th in Business Efficiency.

Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, stated, "The UAE’s continuous presence at the forefront of this significant report reflects its status as one of the world’s most competitive economies. The exceptional vision and wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, have made the UAE a pioneering developmental model adaptable to ongoing global changes. This demonstrates the efficiency of the UAE government system, the flexibility of its business environment, and the readiness of its infrastructure."

Commenting on the results, Hanan Mansour Ahli, Managing Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, praised the integration and governance of real-time data and statistics exchange between federal and local entities. Ahli said, "This achievement is due to dedicated teams committed to implementing the vision and directives of the government of the future, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership. These results reflect the solid principles of the competitiveness culture in the UAE.”

Top Rankings in Key Indicators

The World Competitiveness Report classifies the countries based on four main pillars and 20 sub-pillars encompassing 336 competitive indicators across various economic, administrative, and social fields, including government efficiency, education, and innovation. In this year’s report, the UAE advanced in all four main pillars.

The UAE ranked among the top 10 globally in over 90 key and sub-indicators. The UAE ranked 1st globally in 11 indicators including industrial disputes, labour force (%), employment (%), and household consumption expenditure- real growth.

The UAE secured 2nd place globally in 9 indicators, including tourism receipts, females in parliament, labour force growth, adaptably of government policy, and absence of bureaucracy.

The UAE ranked 3rd globally in 6 indicators including collected capital and property taxes, immigration laws, management of cities and percentage of government budget surplus.

The UAE also achieved 4th place in 12 indicators including consumer price inflation, long-term unemployment, international experience, overall productivity (ppp), labour regulation, and the balance of commercial services and employment in the public sector.

The UAE also achieved 5th place in 13 indicators including GDP (PPP) per capita, quality of air transportation, energy infrastructure, graduates in sciences, start-up procedures, unemployment legislation, foreign highly-skilled personnel, national culture, unemployment rate and tax evasion.

First published in 1989, the IMD World Competitiveness report is a comprehensive annual report and a global benchmark on the competitiveness of countries.

It offers insights into trends, benchmarking, and a wealth of statistics and survey data derived from extensive research. The report analyses and ranks countries based on their ability to manage competencies for sustainable long-term value creation.

The FCSC Hosts IMF for Workshop on Advanced Practices in Measuring Inflation and CPI Statistics

In a strategic initiative to advance the UAE’s statistical capabilities, the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC) hosted an expert technical mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This mission conducted an advanced workshop focused on the application of the latest international practices and technologies in calculating inflation rates and the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The workshop brought together leading experts in inflation statistics and CPI from local statistical centres across the UAE.

The objective was to integrate latest statistical tools, innovative data sources, and the use of scanner data to enhance the accuracy, timeliness, and comprehensiveness of national statistics. This initiative underscores the commitment to leveraging sophisticated statistical infrastructure to inform policy-making, strategic planning, and national development.

In its effort to continue adhering to the highest international standards and methodologies for statistical indicators, the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre emphasised that fostering international cooperation is paramount, especially as the UAE prepares to serve as a member of the United Nations Statistical Commission from 2025 to 2028. The goal is to innovate and standardise national methodologies in partnership with local statistical centres, while enhancing the use of advanced technologies and modern practices in statistical data production. This strategic focus ensures that the UAE’s statistical outputs are both robust and globally competitive.

His Excellency Mohammad Hassan, Executive Director of Statistics and Data Science Sector at the FCSC, stated: "Our successful partnership with the International Monetary Fund underscores our unwavering commitment to establishing a world-class statistical system. By leveraging global expertise and applying top standards and practices, we aim to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the UAE’s national statistical system. Additionally, we embrace the latest technologies in data science and artificial intelligence to produce unified Emirati statistics that align with the visionary leadership and strategic goals of the country”.

Ms. Fayeqa Abdulla, Director of Economic Statistics at the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, highlighted the importance of continuously investing in developing statistical capabilities to keep pace with global advancements in utilizing modern techniques in data science for collecting, analyzing, and producing official statistics in the UAE, in collaboration with local statistical centers.

This workshop builds on the momentum of a recent national workshop hosted by the FCSC on measuring and calculating trade-in-services indicators, conducted in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund and esteemed international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This initiative reflects the UAE’s unwavering dedication to forging robust partnerships and engaging with international and regional organizations. By actively promoting knowledge and experience exchange, the UAE aims to adopt best practices in digital transformation and ensure the application of global standards in data collection and statistical methodologies.
